The Plantain Garden Fault Zone is one of the most active earthquake zones on mainland Jamaica. It is also the fault zone that is part of the devastating Haiti Earthquake fault zone: Enriquillo.
The Plantain Garden Fault Zone is said to be moving left predominantly (mm scale per year). This movement over many years, has resulted in hills & valleys shifting (left & right) relative to this fault zone.
River courses such as the Plantain Garden River are also controlled significantly by the Plantain Garden Fault Zone. This, among other geo-tectonic features, uniquely shapes St.Thomas, Jamaica.
