Oil Exploration in Jamaica & Earthquakes | Beneficial Relationship?

The exploration of oil on Jamaica’s offshore is top focus. Earthquakes play an important role in the exploration of hydrocarbons. Whether or not they can be beneficial or detrimental to the investment is dependent on the fault (earthquake) characterization, among others.

As researchers such as Dr. Lyndon Brown, Dr. Mann, Dr. Margaret Wiggins & others have highlighted, more studies of faults on Jamaica’s Mainland & Offshore are needed. Until we can do this comprehensively, we won’t improve our knowledge of earthquakes in Jamaica & their risk/reward potential; and in extension the complex geology of the Northern Caribbean Plate Tectonics (plate movement kinematics, crustal deformation rates, magmatism…) to say the least.
