Mapping Stony Hill- Hermitage Dam & Falling Edge Waterfall, Jamaica| Travel Geologist

On March 7, 2026, we conducted mapping of Stony Hill – Hermitage Dam, and Falling Edge Falls, as a part of recon for our Hike & Geo-Explore excursion.

 

Stony Hill- Geology Observed

Starting from Constant Spring, and travelling into Stony Hill square from Stony Hill road, the following lithology were observed:

  • Alluvium (Carbonate).
  • Fractured Limestone (non-karst).
  • Karst/Cavernous Limestone.

Bowden Hill-Geology Observed

From Stony Hill square, through Straun Castle, to Bowden Hill, the following lithology were observed:

  • Weathered Limestone.
  • Weathered Volcaniclastic with Ophiolite.
  • Alluvium.
  • Boulder-Size Mafic Volcanics.
  • Volcaniclastic with Ophiolite.

 

Hermitage Dam -Geology Observed

From Bowden Hill-Hermitage Dam, the following lithology were observed:

  • Boulder-Size Mafic Volcanics.
  • Volcaniclastic with Ophiolite & Granitoid.



Falling Edge Waterfalls-Geology Observed (Click Here)

From Bowden Hill-Falling Edge Waterfall, the following lithology was observed

  • Boulder-Size Mafic Volcanics.
