While some may be quick to argue that these scenes are an outcome of a 1 in 20yr hurricane (Category 4, Beryl); it can also be argued that inadequate flood mitigation practices were put in place.
Why is it that after investing millions of dollars to construct this highway, with a segment passing through/adjacent to a community, a required amount (specified after consultation with Geo-Professionals), was not put in place to mitigate against flooding at this scale?
Now, the residents have to bear the cost of recovery; repeated flooding & debris; and potentially, reduced real estate value of their properties.
Disgraceful!
